Japanese Language Facts

Japanese language originated thousands of years ago with the use of an alphabet known as Kanji. Japanese was developed from pictures and over time, the pictures were adapted and became the widely symbols used in the language today. There are three kinds of Japanese language: Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana.

In general, there are approximately 2,000 Kanji characters., Japanese also has another 2 sets of sound-creating characters which are the Hiragana and Katakana. These two sets of characters were also developed from Kanji characters. Each set consist of 46 characters and 1 character is equal to 1 syllable. When a special mark has been added, the sound of a word is changed. Katakana characters are mostly used for words which come from another language such as a foreign name or travel destinations and attractions abroad.
